The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, highlighted that the People's National Army has become a true locomotive for the mechanical industry in Algeria, thanks to the significant development it has achieved in the field of manufacturing over recent years.
The President of the Republic's statements came during his supervision of the opening of the 57th edition of the Algiers International Fair, where he dedicated a long visit to the Ministry of National Defense pavilion, during which he praised the level reached by the mechanical industries affiliated with the People's National Army, considering that the results achieved reflect discipline, high competence, and the availability of qualified human resources capable of leading strategic industrial projects.
The President explained that the military institution has succeeded in building an advanced industrial base in the field of mechanics, making it a model that can be relied upon to develop various branches of the national industry, especially in light of the trend towards increasing local integration rates and strengthening national production, according to what was reported by the website "Ennahar Online".
A National Goal by 2028
In this context, the President of the Republic called for uniting efforts between various economic actors and startups in order to achieve a qualitative leap in the mechanical industries sector, confirming that the next challenge is to manufacture an Algerian engine and gearbox, as they are among the most important industrial components that allow for moving to a new stage of local vehicle manufacturing.
Tebboune stressed the importance of the involvement of startups and subcontracting companies in this path, especially through cooperation with military mechanical industries and benefiting from the available expertise and equipment, which contributes to achieving the goal of producing an Algerian car that relies on locally manufactured components.
Increasing Integration at the Fiat Factory
The President of the Republic also touched on the experience of the "Fiat" factory in Oran, noting that the local integration rate within it has exceeded 30 percent, with expectations of it rising during the coming period to between 40 and 45 percent thanks to the contribution of national companies to the manufacturing of more components and spare parts.
He considered that these indicators reflect the gradual development witnessed by the automotive industry sector in Algeria, especially with the growing role of local economic operators in production and supply chains, which contributes to creating added value within the national economy.
Priority for Local Production
In a related context, the President of the Republic valued the role played by the private sector in supporting industrial activity, stressing the need to give startups a greater place within the national production system, as they are an essential tributary for innovation and industrial development.
He also called for giving priority to the national product and reducing reliance on importing spare parts and industrial components, except for those that require very high technologies, confirming that Algeria possesses engineering and technical competencies that qualify it to achieve higher levels of local manufacturing.
The President indicated that the time has come to enable engineers and national expertise to play a greater role in developing the national economy, by providing them with the appropriate conditions to contribute to industrial projects with high added value, which supports the path of economic diversification and strengthens the country's independence in strategic industrial fields.
