The Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and Regional Planning refuted, this Wednesday, what was circulated on some social media pages regarding the ministerial department's intervention in adopting new procedures concerning the importation of used vehicles.
The Ministry confirmed, in a statement, that all statements and documents issued by it are not considered valid unless they are published through the approved official channels, represented by the Ministry's website and its official pages on social media platforms.
The Ministry of Interior's clarification came following the circulation of correspondence attributed to it on social media, which speaks of the public authorities beginning to take regulatory and technical measures in preparation for opening the door to importing used vehicles that are no more than 10 years old.
The circulated document, which the Ministry disavowed, indicated that this "direction comes within the framework of embodying the government's policy aimed at responding to the social and economic aspirations of citizens, meeting the increasing demand for vehicles in the national market, in addition to renewing the vehicle fleet in line with the requirements of sustainable development."
The correspondence attributed to the Ministry also included talk about allowing citizens and economic actors to import used passenger and utility vehicles that are no more than ten years old from the date of their first registration.
The document also addressed the necessity of the effective implementation of this decision, with a call to prepare periodic reports on the progress of the operation, and to immediately report any obstacles that may hinder the application in order to address and resolve them within appropriate timeframes.
