Public authorities have decided to adopt a transitional measure to regularize the situation of members of the Algerian community residing abroad, allowing for the customs clearance of new vehicles equipped with "diesel" engines within the framework of the "change of residence certificate," with an extension of the previous regulatory conditions until June 30, 2026.
An interim measure to avoid complications
This decision comes in the context of the entry into force of the 2026 Finance Law, which brought amendments to the conditions for importing vehicles, especially those running on diesel.
To avoid harming citizens who began purchasing their vehicles before these changes, this transitional system was established as a compromise solution that guarantees their rights.
In this context, the Consulate General of Algeria in Naples revealed the details of the measure, confirming that it concerns members of the community under its jurisdiction, with the possibility of extending it to other consular missions.
The announcement clarified that benefiting from this measure is conditional upon proving the acquisition of the vehicle before January 1, 2026, by submitting official documents such as the purchase invoice, the order form, or proof of payment for part of the vehicle's price.
Precise conditions and a clear legal framework
The decision requires those concerned to respect the same regulations that were in effect before the entry into force of the new law, meaning that the operation remains legally framed and is not an open exception, but a temporary measure to settle pending cases.
This extension also grants an additional period extending until the end of June 2026, allowing beneficiaries to complete administrative and customs procedures without committing violations or encountering legal obstacles.
Consular services confirmed their readiness to assist citizens through dedicated communication channels and to provide the necessary clarifications to ensure the proper implementation of the decision, especially in light of the high demand expected for this type of procedure.
